START WHERE YOU ARE

You don’t need every answer
before asking for help.

Finding something near the bed can leave you with a lot of questions. Start with the room, the signs and when you first noticed them. We can discuss whether an inspection is the right next step.

THE ROOM. THE SIGNS. THE NEXT STEP.

Describe what you have noticed.

Tell us which room is involved, when the signs appeared and whether a treatment has already been tried. An inspection may be needed before choosing the method.

Skin marks alone cannot confirm bed bugs. You can use the written guides without looking at pictures of insects.

Understand the signs

LET’S UNDERSTAND THE SIGNS

What have
you noticed?

The location, movement and evidence around the room matter. Start with the bed bug clues, or use the other routes if your concern is different.

Skin photographs cannot diagnose a pest or a medical condition. NHS guidance (external page contains images).

Look at the room as well as the skin.

  • Note when marks appeared, but do not diagnose a pest from their pattern. Bed bugs, fleas and unrelated causes can look similar.
  • From an accessible position, use a torch to look along mattress seams, bed joints and nearby seating. Describe insects, shed material or repeated dark marks.
  • Do not take beds apart or move suspected belongings between rooms. If symptoms are worsening, seek advice from a pharmacist or health professional.
